The Texas Wesleyans women's basketball (6-1, 4-0 SAC) leaves Waxahachie, TX, with a victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (2-7, 1-3 SAC) to remain undefeated in conference play.
The game is the 21st meeting between the two programs and favors Texas Wesleyan 12 games to nine. The last time these two teams played was on January 20, 2022, in Waxahachie, TX. The Lady Rams walked away with an 87 to 74 win.
The Lady Rams beat the Lions 90 to 65 in yesterday's game. Kertisa Amos and Taryn Willis led all scorers with 20 points each, with Amos being one of two Rams to score a double-double after also pulling in 12 rebounds. The other Ram in double-digits scoring and rebounding was Makayla Coy, who nabbed ten rebounds.
The Lady Rams continued where they left off in the last game, crashing the boards for a 46 to 38 advantage in rebounds. Coy was also the only other Lady Ram to score in double digits, contributing 11 points on 5-14 shooting from the field.
Personal fouls were another critical factor in the matchup, as SAGU had 21 and Texas Wesleyan only had 14. Opportunities that created ways for the Lady Rams to get to the free-throw line enabled TXWES to score 12 points from free throws, including 6-9 from the line in the last quarter.
The win also marked a milestone in the career of Head Coach Brenita Jackson, who was also able to secure the 100th win at the college level in her seventh season of coaching and second at TXWES.
The victory put the Lady Rams in a two-way tie for first place in the SAC standings, the University of Science and Arts, who remain undefeated early on the season.
The Lady Rams next contest will be on the road Thursday against Southwestern Christan University in Bethany, OK, at 6 PM. The game will be the 17th time the Lady Rams have played SWC, with TXWES holding an all-time 9-8 advantage.
