Box Score SILOAM SPRINGS, AR.-- The Texas Wesleyan women's basketball team (23-5, 17-5 SAC) defeated John Brown University (15-15, 11-11) 91-61 in the final game of the regular season.
The Lady Rams dominated from opening tip, jumping out to a 29-15 lead after ten minutes of play. TXWES continued it's stifling defense in the second quarter, holding JBU to 36 points in the first half. The Lady Rams carried a 49-36 lead into the half-time break.Â
In the third quarter, TXWES continued it's tight defense, holding JBU to 14 points in the quarter. The Lady Rams pulled away in the fourth quarter, out-scoring JBU 23 to 11 to seal a 91-61 victory over the Golden Eagles.
Freshman
Zarria Carter continued to dominate the paint by corralling her twelfth double-double of the season with 21 points and 14 rebounds. She also recorded three steals and one block. Junior
Kertisa Amos put together a solid performance with 29 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals, and junior
Makayla Coy almost captured a double-double with 16 points and 8 rebounds on 7-11 shooting from the field.
Junior
Na'Teiona Cole distributed the ball well with 7 assists and also added 3 steals on the afternoon. TXWES scored 17 bench points in the game.Â
The Lady Rams shot 36-77 from the field (46.8 percent,) and 6-21 from the three-point line (28.6 percent.) TXWES shot 13-16 (81 percent) from the free-throw line. The Lady Rams out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 45 to 27.and also recorded 21 assists. TXWES only committed 6 turnovers compared to JBU turning the ball over 16 times. The Lady Rams dominated the block with 48 points in the paint and 24 second chance points.
TXWES played solid defense as JBU shot 25-58 from the field (43 percent.) The Lady Rams officially finish the regular season winning 17 conference games which is the most since 2011-2012. 23 wins marks the most in the program since the 2011-2012 team that won 25 games.
The Lady Rams finish third in the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season standings and will host a quarterfinal conference tournament game on Thursday, Feb. 24 at the Sid Richardson Center.
