Box Score LANGSTON, OK-- The Texas Wesleyan women's basketball team (19-4, 13-4 SAC) suffered a 71-61 loss against Langston (16-8, 11-7) at C.F. Gayles Field House on Monday evening.
The Lady Rams found itself in a defensive-minded game in the first half. The Lions led 12-7 with 4:37 left in the first quarter. After two completed free-throw attempts by
Kertisa Amos, TXWES only trailed by 1 point at the end of the first quarter.Â
The Lady Rams competed hard on the defensive end of the court, holding Langston to 33 percent shooting from the field in the first half. Similar to the first quarter, TXWES continued to cut away at the Lions lead. The Lady Rams got a lift from freshman
Maliah LaCour as she had 8 points off the bench.Â
Junior
Kertisa Amos also had 12 first half points for the Lady Rams. TXWES scored 13 of their 29 first half points at the free-throw line. The Lady Rams trailed 33-29 after one half of play.Â
TXWES started off the third quarter with consecutive baskets by
Maliah LaCour and
Zarria Carter to notch the game at 33-33 with 8 minutes left in the third quarter. A tough layup by
Mary Nyakundi, a free-throw made by
Maliah LaCour, and a
Zarria Carter layup cut the deficit the Lady Rams faced to 6 points.
After three quarters of play, Langston led 54-48. TXWES gave up a three-pointer, and a layup which gave the Lions a 59-50 lead with 7:34 left in the game. The Lady Rams used strong post play to get to the free-throw line which was their most reliable source of points on the night.. With 5:15 left in the game, the Lions carried a 61-54 lead.Â
This was a physical matchup as there was a total of 42 fouls between the two teams. There was also a total of 58 free-throw attempts between each team. TXWES shot 19 of 29 (65 percent) from the free-throw line and the Lions shot 22 of 29 (75 percent) from the free-throw line.Â

The Lady Rams comeback attempt fell short as it fell 71-61 in a hard fought battle against Langston. TXWES moves to 3-1 all-time against Langston. After a 4 game road trip, the Lady Rams will return home to face Wayland Baptist University at the Sid Richardson Center with tip-off set for 6 p.m. on Thursday evening.
