Oklahoma City—The Texas Wesleyan Baseball Team(35-19, 15-9 SAC) lost for the second time in as many days to Oklahoma City University (46-4, 22-2 SAC) in the conference tournament on Sunday afternoon at JIM Wade Stadium. The Rams were able to jump out to an early lead but fell late in the elimination game.
The Ram's bats would produce 12 runs on 15 hits, including doubles by
Marcos Sanchez, Kevin Santiago and
Tomas Sanchez.
Joseph Barfield was able to add a triple to the right-center in the top of the sixth inning. In addition two home runs hit by Kevin Santiago,
Greyson Barrett and
Carson Cheaney.
After a back and forth in the first couple of innings, the Rams could jump out to an early lead thanks to producing five runs in the top of the third inning, starting with an M. Sanchez double to left field on a 0-2 count. The next batter Kevin Santiago homered to left field, driving in two more runs for TXWES. The Rams would produce five runs on seven hits and left two base runners stranded in the frame.
Garrett Moltzan was able to go six and two-thirds innings before getting into trouble late in the game. It would take two more pitchers for the Rams to get out of the frame, with
Morgan McCloud giving up four runs on four hits. When the dust had settled, TXWES pitching had given up six runs on six hits allowing OCU to tie the game at 11 runs each.
The Rams took the lead back briefly in the top of the eighth inning, thanks to Kevin Santiago's double to left-center, driving home
Hayden Hutchins. However, in the bottom half of the inning, OCU would tie the game again after the Rams gave up a walk with the bases loaded.
TXWES lost the game on a home run to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning. However, this is not the end of the Ram's season quite yet. After their performance in the closing games of the season, coupled with play in this weekend's conference tournament. The Rams have a shot at an at-large bid in the national tournament.
