Box Score In the SAC game of the week, the #17 Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams beat the #19 University of Sciences & Arts of Oklahoma 87-68.
The Lady Rams tied a school record for most wins in a row at 16 and continued as the undefeated SAC leader at 12-0, tying the school record with the 1978-1979 team.
Once again, four Lady Rams scored in double figures, with
Taryn Wills hitting 12 of 14 from the field for 26 points, 15 in the third quarter alone.
Makayla Coy and
Kertisa Amos scored 12 points each and nabbed six rebounds each.
Mary Nyakundi scored 10, and Kobi LaCour came off the bench for her best game of the season, scoring eight points.
The game at the Sid Richardson Center was all Texas Wesleyan after the Lady Rams took the lead 6-5 at 5:21 in the first quarter. From there, the Drovers succumbed to an aggressive Ram offense and defense that took the lead after the first 24-14. The Drovers mounted a comeback in the second quarter, outscoring the Rams 18-17, but Texas Wesleyan still went into the locker room with a 41-32 lead.
When the Lady Rams emerged, Wills caught fire for Texas Wesleyan, hitting 15 of her 26 points in the third quarter and leading a 30-14 quarter for the Lady Rams. She continued with the hot hand in the fourth as the #17 Lady Rams took a decisive win over the #19 USAO Drovers 87-68.
Texas Wesleyan's bench dominated the game, with the Lady Rams providing 49 points from the bench, 26 coming from Wills. Texas Wesleyan also outrebounded the Drovers 33-21 and scored 12 second-chance points to USAO's five.
The Lady Rams move to 17-1 overall and remain undefeated in SAC at 12-0. Head Coach Brenita Jackson's 50th game at TXWES, where she has compiled a 43-7 record during that time.
The Lady Rams continue their home SAC play at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, against Oklahoma City University as they seek to break program history with their 17th win in a row.
