Game Recap: Baseball |

BB: Rams Open Season with Two Wins at Sycamore Park

Baseball season has officially begun, and the Texas Wesleyan Rams started their season with a Saturday doubleheader vs. Huston-Tillotson. TXWES won game one 9-3 and game two 8-7.

In game one, the scoring started off in the second inning, courtesy of catcher Carson Cheany's RBI walk. The Rams of Huston-Tillotson would take the lead by scoring a run in each of the next two innings. In the bottom half of the fourth, left fielder Greyson Barrett leads off the inning with a triple, and Kevin Santiago drives him in on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.

Fast forwarding to the bottom of the sixth inning, TXWES trails 3-2 and the Rams erupt for a seven-run inning, with RBIs courtesy of Tomas Sanchez, Jonathan Pena, Brandon Rincones, Logan Silvertooth, Kevin Santiago and JD Padgett.

On the pitching side, RHP Garrett Bodine goes four innings, striking out seven, while surrendering only two runs. LHP Jansen Lublin and RHPs David Theriot and Jaxon Ingram appeared on their way to victory.

In game two, it was early run scoring for both sides, a total of six runs in just the first inning, with TXWES leading 4-2 after one. Once the Rams had the lead, they never lost it, as their opponents pulled within one run on two separate occasions. One of the big offensive blows came courtesy of Jonathan Pena in the fourth, as he connected on a two-run home run to right field, the first of the season for him and the team.

RHP Kade Baron came on to relieve in the first inning and found a way to work around danger, putting together five innings while only giving up two runs and striking out three. LHPs Fernando Gonzalez and Jesse Garcia worked in relief to close out the game.

TXWES now looks for the series sweep on Sunday as they battle Huston-Tillotson at 1:00 pm in the series finale.
