VB: Rams Rally Against the Stars

FORT WORTH - The Texas Wesleyan volleyball team escaped another five-set thriller against Oklahoma City University on Friday night inside of the Sid Richardson Center.

Set 1
 
Texas Wesleyan got off to a good start in set one leading for most of the match. The Stars would stay within striking distance of the Rams and late in the set the stars would take a 21-20 lead.  OCU would capture a two-point lead after a service ace forcing the Rams to call a timeout. The Rams would come out of the with a renewed sense of urgency in the set as a Grace Pavelka Kill followed by two OCU errors would give the Rams a lead at 23-22. Andrea Malek would deliver an ace for set point as the Rams looked to close out the set. However, OCU would not go silently and would extend the match to 24-24. OCU would hold strong and go on to steal set from the rams 27-25.  
 
Set 2

A Carly Unruh kill would open set two and would set the tone of this match as the Rams would take an early 8-1 lead over the stars. A string of errors from the Rams would allow OCU to creep back into the set cutting the lead to 10-7. Texas Wesleyan would maintain their and continued their scoring run capped off with a Sydney Alexander block. OCU would call a timeout to try to slow the momentum of Wesleyan, but the rams would go on to win the set 25-13
 
Set 3
 
Set three saw the opponents in another battle of mini runs as both teams would continue to trade points back and forth. The set would go onto have eight total ties with the last coming at 22-22. OCU would rattle off two kills to get to set point and would go on to win 25-23.
 
Set 4
 
Down 2-1 with the match on the line Texas would come out swinging as they would hit their highest percentage. The Rams controlled set one from beginning to end as errors plagued the Stars. The Rams hit .129 in set holding their opponents to -.129 in the set 25-11 victory.
 
Set 5
 
The deciding set would open with a quick error from the stars followed by Back-to-back ace from Malek would give the Rams the lead at 3-0. The Stars would answer back and go on a run to capture a slight two-point lead at 6-4. OCU would hold the lead as the team switched side at 8-5. The Rams would come storming back to tie up the set at 12-12. Carly Unruh would come up big with two big back-to-back kills and Hanna Rubis would come up clutch with a kill to snatch set five from the Stars with a 15-12 win.
 
Carly Unruh would have season high 11 kills followed by Kendal King and Lauran Richards both with nine kills. Ruby O'Brien finished with 22 assist and 19 digs, while teammate Andrea Malek added 22 digs of her own. American Galvan would have a season high of 18 digs in the win.
 
Texas Wesleyan will be back at home for a match against John Brown University tomorrow at 1 p.m. inside of the Sid Richardson Center.
