Fort Worth, TX - In the highly-anticipated Funkytown Showdown held on Monday between Texas Wesleyan University and Texas Christian University (TCU), it was TCU that emerged triumphant, securing a 98-61 victory.
Right from the commencement of the contest, TCU exhibited their offensive skills as Emanuel Miller executed a rapid break, effortlessly sinking a layup a mere 19 seconds into the game, immediately putting his team in the lead. However, Texas Wesleyan responded swiftly, with Kris Lafayette delivering a 3-point jumper to level the score at 3-3.
Despite their early promise, Texas Wesleyan found themselves grappling with turnovers as Lafayette succumbed to a turnover swiftly seized by TCU's Jakobe Coles. Emanuel Miller of TCU capitalized on this error with a seamless layup, further extending their lead.
Although the Rams' Kaden Morgan managed to contribute with a 3-point jumper, TCU's Coles promptly retaliated with a fast-break dunk.
As the game progressed, it became evident that TCU's offensive firepower and strong defense had stumped the Rams, and the first period culminated with TCU boasting a lead of 44-30.
Texas Wesleyan managed to muster some points through the valiant efforts of players such as Montez Young Jr., Adetoke Bakare, and Morgan.

Junior Adetoke Bakare distinguished himself as the leading scorer for the Rams, tallying 13 points on a 5-13 field goal shooting in 32
minutes of play.
Senior Kris Lafayette contributed nine points, connecting on 4-9 field goals, and securing seven rebounds in his 32 minutes on the court.
Fellow Ram, junior Kaden Morgan, also contributed nine points, making 3-8 field goals in 20 minutes of play.
The Rams' next challenge awaits them on Saturday in the confines of the Sid Richardson Center, where they will face another formidable opponent from the Metroplex, Arlington Baptist. The tipoff for this matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m.
