WBB: Rams Rout Trailblazers 71-54

FORT WORTH, TX – The Texas Wesleyan women's basketball took care of business in its first SAC contest of the season as the Rams breezed by the University of North Texas - Dallas 71-54 on Thursday Evening inside of the Sid Richardson Center.

First Quarter
The first quarter saw both teams struggle early with unforced turnovers that would keep the opponents within striking distance of each other. The Rams would maintain a small lead over the Trailblazers to end the quarter with the score at 15-11
Second Quarter
The Trailblazers would score seven quick points to take an 18-15 lead over the Rams. Mary Nyakundi would score the first point of the quarter for the Rams as looked to find some offense. The Rams would go on a scoring to close out the quarter outscoring the Trailblazers 11-6. Taryn Wills would come up big in the quarter with back to back buckets that was capped off by a Kamryn Gibson three pointer. The Rams would lead 34-24 over UNTD heading into halftime.

Third Quarter
UNTD would come out of the break scoring on back-to-back shots to cut into the deficient. Savannah Smith would drain a shot from beyond the arch to put the Rams on the board. The Two teams would both go on scoring runs, but the Rams would maintain a 49-42 lead heading into the fourth.

Fourth Quarter
The Rams would breakout in the final quarter of the game scoring a staggering 22 points to their opponents 12. Rikeyah Gant would lead all players with eight points as the Rams cruised to a 71-54 win to open conference play.
 
Gant would score a season high 17 points with eight rebounds while Taryn Wills added 10 points in the victory. Kamryn Gibson would finish with eight points and five assists.

The Rams travel up the road to take on crosstown rival Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Saturday at 2PM in Waxahachie, TX.
