WSOC: Rams Fall in First Round of SAC Tournament to USAO

Chickasha, OK - On Saturday, the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) Tournament brought together two teams with contrasting fortunes. Science and Arts, a powerhouse with a 13-5 record, stood poised to battle against the underdog, Texas Wesleyan, who had a respectable 7-9-1 record but were deemed the underdogs.

From the outset, Science and Arts exhibited strength by launching a barrage of attacks on Texas Wesleyan's goal. With relentless pressure and precision, they eventually found their breakthrough at the 28-minute mark. Aleigha Prince of Science and Arts found the net, giving her team the early lead, and the scoreboard read 1-0 in their favor.

Texas Wesleyan, however, yielded slowly. The underdogs showcased their fighting spirit, but Science and Arts extended their lead in the 61st minute when Ilse de Jong netted the second goal. Now, the scoreboard displayed a 2-0 lead for Science and Arts.

A glimmer of hope emerged for Texas Wesleyan in the 78th minute. Kiki Molinar managed to breach Science and Arts' defense, putting her team on the board with a goal, and it was 2-1. A comeback seemed plausible, and the fans could feel the tension in the air.

Yet, Science and Arts had one more ace up their sleeves. In the 85th minute, Ilse de Jong struck again, this time with an assist from Luna Knoester. With a deft finish, she secured the victory for her team, making it 3-1.

 
The team statistics told a story of Science and Arts' dominance. They outshot Texas Wesleyan by a significant margin, with 33 shots, with 17 on goal, compared to Texas Wesleyan's four shots, with one on goal. The Texas Wesleyan goalkeeper made an impressive 14 saves, but Science and Arts' keeper had a quiet night with no saves. Corner kicks favored Texas Wesleyan 3-5, and fouls were 9-14 in favor of Texas Wesleyan.
