MBB:Rams Lose Conference Opener at Home to UNT-D

On Thursday, the Texas Wesleyan University men's team faced off against UNT Dallas at the Sid Richardson Center on November 30, 2023. 

Unfortunately for Texas Wesleyan, UNT Dallas emerged victorious with a score of 66-51.

The first half saw both teams battling it out, with UNT Dallas taking a narrow lead of 33-28. The scoring leaders for Texas Wesleyan included Kris Lafayette, who had 11 points and ten rebounds for a double-double. Fellow Rams Kaden Morgan and Adetokumbo Bakare both scored 10 points. Despite their efforts, UNT Dallas maintained control in the second half, ultimately securing the win.

Throughout the game, UNT Dallas showcased a balanced performance, with Connor Kern leading in rebounds with ten and Kanntrell Burney contributing both on the boards and in scoring. 

Texas Wesleyan faced challenges in shooting efficiency, especially in the first half, where they struggled with a 24.24% field goal percentage.

Key statistics revealed UNT Dallas' dominance in points in the paint, fast break points, and points off turnovers. 

The Texas Wesleyan bench made a significant contribution with 22 points, but more was needed to overcome UNT Dallas' well-rounded performance.

The game featured multiple lead changes and tied scores, reflecting the competitive nature of the matchup. UNT Dallas demonstrated their ability to capitalize on turnovers, securing 14 points in this category, while Texas Wesleyan struggled to convert opportunities.

The Rams will next play on Saturday against conference foe Southwestern Assemblies of God University on the road, with tip-off scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
