It was a tough night for the Texas Wesleyan Rams (6-2) as they were shut out by the Missouri Baptist University Spartans (3-0) in their second loss of the day. The Rams got behind early and were unable to mount a comeback.
The Spartan pitchers were dominant on the mound, throwing for thirteen strikeouts in their first no-hitter since April 2021. Despite their best efforts, the Rams were unable to generate any offense.
They had chances to advance runners throughout the game but needed help to cross homeplate. However, there were some defensive highlights, including two double plays by
TJ Tomlinson (2),
Jose Sosa (2), and
Chaesten Chon.
The Rams cycled through five pitchers who faced a total of thirty-three batters.
Fernando Gonzalez started the game, pitching 2.0 innings, and will be charged with the loss.
Stephen Roberts,
Justin Ward,
Eugene Gay, and
Andrew Graham split duties for the remaining five innings, with Graham striking out three batters in a row to close out the top of the seventh inning.
There was no time to waste as the Rams had to quickly put this loss behind them and put their focus on preparing for their matchup against the Mid-America Nazarene University Pioneers (1-5) on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
The Rams will close out play in the Cajun Collision Tournament on Sunday at 11:00 am against Louisiana Christian University before returning to Fort Worth.
