The Texas Wesleyan Softball (2-7) team got off to a strong start in their first conference game against Central Christian College (5-11). In game one of the doubleheader the Lady Rams took care of business with a 3-1 win over the Lady Tigers Unfortunately, they could not replicate their success at the dropped game two with a score of 4-1.
In game one the game started off slow as neither team could put any points on the board in the first inning. At the top of the second inning, the Lady Tigers were able to score the first points of the matchup, taking an early lead. The Lady Rams answered back and exploded with a scoring run led by a D. Dunn single to center field followed by a scoring run from Izzy Valenzuela. The Lady Rams did not stop there as Kylie Summers and Devin Dunn each had scoring runs allowing the team to take a 3-1 lead.
Central Christian College scored their only run of the game in the second inning with a single from Halee Wallin, but that was all they could do in Game one. The Texas Wesleyan defense held did not allow any more runs to score and secured the win.
Going into game two the Lady Rams had momentum, but they were unable able to care of business. Like the first game, the first inning went scoreless as both teams seemed to be locked. At the top of the second Valenzuela singled up the middle allowing Jaeley May to advance to third allowing Hailey Hernandez to score. The Lady Rams held briefly held a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the second before another Wallin score.
The fifth inning was when the Lady Tigers took control of the game. With three scoring runs the Lady Tigers took a 4-1 lead over Texas Wesleyan. Texas Wesleyan hit a stalemate as they were unable to score again the Lady Tigers. With the loss, the Rams finish the day going 1-1.
The Lady Rams are back in action today at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. with another doubleheader against Central Christian College.
