The No. 5-seeded Lady Rams defeated the No.12-seeded Brewton-Parker College in the First Round of the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament in Alexandria, LA. The Lady Rams emerged victorious with a score of 104-87 at the Rapides Parish Coliseum.
The Lady Rams took an early lead in the first quarter, but Brewton-Parker College took control halfway through the frame. With the Lady Rams down by nine points at the end of the first quarter, they started out slow in the second quarter but managed to cut the lead down to single digits before halftime.
The game's momentum shifted in favor of the Lady Rams in the second half. Wesleyan quickly erased the five-point deficit from the first half and took the lead, never looking back. They finished the third quarter up by 19 points, going on a 29 to 11-point run on Brewton-Parker College.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Rams extended their lead to 21 points before Brewton-Parker College's shooters got hot and managed to pull the lead down to 11 points with 2:06 remaining in the game. However, Wesleyan could answer back and ended the game up 17 points, with a final score of 104-87.
Four players from the Lady Rams scored in double digits, with
Makayla Coy leading the team with 32 points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes.
Kertisa Amos contributed 21 points in 38 minutes,
Taryn Wills scored 20 points in 21 minutes, and
Zarria Carter scored 18 points in 34 minutes. The Lady Rams shot 51.9% from the floor, 33.3% from three, and 80% from the free-throw line.
The Lady Rams will play their next game on Wednesday against No. 14 Vanguard University from California at 5:30 pm in Alexandria, LA, at the Rapides Parish Coliseum.
