After sweeping Mid-America Christian on Sunday, the Texas Wesleyan Rams won the conference championship with a 12-8 victory.
Mid-America Christian took the lead in the first inning when Nolan McGarry hit a sacrifice fly and allowed Aaron Enwiya to score the game's first run. However, the Rams quickly answered back in the second inning when
Jose Sosa grounded out to shortstop and
Jonathan Pena scored, tying the game 1-1.
The Rams took the lead in the third inning and never looked back. Kevin Santiago hit an RBI single to left field and advanced to second on the throw.
Brandon Rincones scored, and
Hayden Hutchins followed him shortly after, making the score 2-1.
Jonathan Pena then hit a three-run homer to center field, making it 5-1. In the fourth inning, the Rams continued their offensive streak with
Jose Sosa hitting a solo home run and
Logan Silvertooth following him with a homer to left-center field.
TJ Tomlinson, Grayson Barrett, Santiago, Kevin and
Carson Cheaney also contributed to the scoring frenzy with a single and four more home runs, giving the Rams a commanding 12-1 lead.
Despite being down by 11 runs, the Evangels did not give up and put up a strong fight in the later innings. Ryan Reed hit an RBI single in the fifth inning, allowing Jacob Police to score.Andrew Enwiya hit a three-run homer to left-center field in the seventh inning, making the score 12-5. In the eighth inning, the Evangels continued their comeback with Yan Ely Adames hitting a two-run homer and Police advancing to second base, bringing the score to 12-8.
However, the Rams' defense held strong in the final inning, not allowing the Evangels to score again.
Justin Ward was credited with the win after pitching six innings, allowing seven hits and five runs, and striking out 4. Ryan Harney received the loss after pitching only 2.1 innings, allowing seven hits and five runs, and striking out 2.
The Rams' victory over the Evangels secured their conference championship and brought an end to a successful season. Both teams played an excellent game, with the Rams showcasing their offensive firepower, and the Evangels fighting back with a never-give-up attitude.
