FB: Rams Open Season Against Ottawa on Saturday

Fort Worth, TX - In a highly anticipated showdown this Saturday, the #21 Texas Wesleyan University Rams are set to clash with the #17 Ottawa University of Arizona Spirit on the gridiron. The stage is set for an electrifying battle, with both teams aiming to assert their dominance in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Texas Wesleyan is coming off an impressive 2022 season and fielded a potent offense that was ranked #2 nationally in scoring, averaging a staggering 46.4 points per game. They are led by key returners Ernest Cesear, Michael Bonner, Kobe Adams, and Jaysen Price, who will be looking to light up the scoreboard once again. The Rams also had a formidable defense, ranking #14 nationally in scoring, allowing just 14 points per game, and excelling in interceptions with 18.

On the other side, Ottawa University of Arizona Spirit kicked off their 2023 campaign with a resounding victory over cross-town rivals Arizona Christian, winning 37-7. Their quarterback, Luke Giron, delivered an impressive performance in his first collegiate start, throwing for 279 yards and two touchdowns. Jh'dan Lester spearheaded the ground attack with 93 rushing yards, while the defense dominated with nine sacks.

The first coaches' poll created considerable buzz, as both OUAZ and TXWES were tied for first place with 75 points each. The Rams, however, secured one more first-place vote than the Spirit. This poll only added to the excitement surrounding this upcoming clash, making it a must-watch showdown.
