FB: Rams Secure First Win in School History Over #17 Ottawa

Crowley, TX - In a thrilling college football matchup on Saturday, the #21 Texas Wesleyan Rams faced off against the #17 Ottawa University Arizona (OUAZ) Spirit at Crowley ISD Stadium.  

The Texas Wesleyan Rams were playing in their first game of the season, while the OUAZ Spirit were looking for their second win. However, the Rams were able to secure their first win over OUAZ with a final score of 36-20.

The Texas Wesleyan Rams got off to a strong start in the first quarter, as quarterback Carson Rodgers connected with AJ Bobb for a 20-yard touchdown pass, giving them an early 7-0 lead.

Ernest Ceasar broke free in the second quarter with a spectacular 73-yard rushing touchdown. However, their extra point attempt failed, leaving the score at 13-0 in favor of the Rams.

The OUAZ Spirit responded with an 85-yard touchdown pass from Luke Giron to Da'Vicious Wilson, narrowing the gap to 13-7.


Texas Wesleyan extended their lead before halftime as Carson Rodgers found AJ Bobb again, this time for a 13-yard touchdown pass, making it 20-7 at the break.


In the third quarter, the Rams continued to put points on the board with two field goals by Gerrit Blodgett (31 yards and 41 yards), bringing the score to 26-14.


The Texas Wesleyan defense had a strong showing, consistently pressuring OUAZ quarterback Luke Giron with sacks and tackles for loss. Notable defensive players for the Rams included Jose Bonilla and Ashalli Cannon, who contributed to the pressure on the opposing quarterback.

The OUAZ Spirit's defense also had its moments, including a fumble recovery by Christian Foote, resulting in a touchdown late in the game.


In the fourth quarter, the Rams secured the win with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Carson Rodgers to Michael Banks and two additional field goals by Gerrit Blodgett (38 yards and 41 yards).


Overall, the Rams' offense showcased its explosive potential with multiple touchdowns and field goals, while their defense made crucial stops and generated turnovers to secure the victory. 


With this victory, the Rams improved their record to 1-0, while the OUAZ Spirit fell to 1-1. The Rams will travel to Houston, TX, next week to play against North American University and return home the following week to host Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
