WBB: Rams Suffer Tough Loss Against Flying Queens

FORT WORT, TX- The Texas Wesleyan Women's basketball team fell behind in the second half and failed to battle back in a 67-59 loss to Wayland Baptist University Saturday afternoon inside the Sid Richardson Center.
 
The Flying Queens got off to a quick start draining consecutive shots from behind the three-point line. The Rams would stay within striking distance to keep the deficit at 9-14 as the quarter ended.
 
Savanna Smith would knock down a jump shot to start the second quarter as the Rams looks to cut into the lead. Smith would come up big with a three point to tie the match. With the shot clock winding down Taryn wills would lay the ball in to give the Rams their first lead of the lead of the contest. The two teams would begin trading points back as the quarter.
 
Smith would have a stellar performance in the quarter going 4-4 from the three-point line to help Texas Wesleyan hold a slight 31-28 lead over Wayland Baptist going into half time.

The Flying Queens would come out of halftime fired up as they would score on their first two shots to regain the lead. The two teams would battle late into the quarter with the Flying Queens holding a 36-41 lead over the Rams. With two minutes left in the quarter the Queens would pull away from Wesleyan taking a 39-49 lead as the quarter came to a close.
 
With one quarter left in the contest Texas Wesleyan put up a fight as Wayland continued to find ways to score. Though the Rams outscored their opponents in the quarter, the Flying Queens would put up a solid performance to take the 67-59 victory over the Rams.

Savanna Smith led all players with a season high 20 points. Kayla Fuller and Mary Nyakundi each added 12 points in the loss.
 
Next up for the Rams is a trip Oklahoma where they will take on the Lions of Langston in a Sooner Athletic Conference game. Tip is scheduled for Thursday, January 11th at 6:00 PM.
