FORT WORTH, TX– Last week, Nelson University fell to Wayland Baptist 27-7 in a Sooner Athletic Conference matchup at Lumpkins Stadium on October 12.
Nelson struck first with a 1-yard touchdown run by Dakeevion Rose, but Wayland responded with a 69-yard TD pass. Pierson Rougeau led Nelson's offense with 116 rushing yards but faced defensive pressure and two interceptions.
Wayland's Davian Guajardo added a 21-yard TD run, extending their lead. Joseph Chavez led Nelson's defense with 13 tackles. Wayland sealed the win with a touchdown and two field goals in the second half. Xavier Garcia and Johnathan Bloom also had strong defensive performances.
The Rams had their second bye week of the season last week but continued their historic run the week before against Arkansas Baptist College.
Texas Wesleyan University dominated Arkansas Baptist College with a 77-0 victory, their second-highest point total in school history. The Rams led 21-0 in the first quarter with touchdowns from Carson Rodgers and Ernest Ceasar.
Rodgers threw three touchdown passes, while Ceasar added multiple rushing scores. Defensively, Javari Sanders had two interceptions, stalling Arkansas Baptist's momentum.
By halftime, Texas Wesleyan led 49-0. The Rams continued their dominance, extending their lead to 77-0 in the final quarter.
The team remains the NAIA's highest-scoring offense, averaging 55 points per game.
