FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University looks to continue their strong season as they travel to Plainview, Texas, to face conference rival Wayland Baptist University on Saturday.
Wayland Baptist (3-3) is coming off a 27-7 win over Nelson University, thanks to a balanced offensive attack led by quarterback Davian Guajardo, who threw for 250 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another score.
Damon Ford added a 1-yard rushing touchdown, and Leo Marini kicked two field goals. Isaiah Brooks led the defense with eight tackles, and Tyrone Morgan sealed the win with an interception.
Meanwhile, Texas Wesleyan (6-0) posted a historic 76-19 victory over Nelson University, marking the third-highest point total in school history.
Ernest Ceasar led the charge with six rushing touchdowns, tying the school record. The Rams overcame an early 13-0 deficit, tying the game in the first quarter and taking a 27-13 lead before halftime.
Defensively, the Rams Wyatt Vinzant and Neville Mbah dominated, and Tye Renfro connected with Jaysen Price for a late touchdown to secure the win.
Texas Wesleyan leads the all-time series against Wayland Baptist 5-1. In their most recent matchup on Oct. 21, 2023, the Rams won 24-13. Texas Wesleyan has won four straight games against Wayland Baptist, with their only loss coming in 2018.
The Rams' largest margin of victory in the series was a 63-7 win in 2021, while their smallest margin was the recent 24-13 win. Texas Wesleyan averages 37.33 points per game in the series.
