FORT WORTH, TX — Texas College secured a close 30-24 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday in Tyler.
Oklahoma Panhandle opened with a 32-yard field goal by Carlos Vazquez, but Texas College answered with a 23-point second quarter, highlighted by quarterback Amani Gilmore's 8-yard rushing touchdown.
Oklahoma Panhandle's Brandon Stephens connected twice with Draylon Roberson for long touchdowns, with Roberson amassing 138 receiving yards. A 23-yard touchdown reception by Texas College's D. Hill from Gilmore in the third quarter sealed the win, as Texas College outgained Oklahoma Panhandle 420-341 in total offense.
No. 11 Texas Wesleyan extended its unbeaten season with a 66-35 victory over Wayland Baptist. Wayland struck first with an 85-yard touchdown pass, building an early 14-0 lead.
Texas Wesleyan responded with touchdown passes from Carson Rodgers to Michael Banks and AJ Bobb, taking a 21-17 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, Zykeelan Hadnot's 100-yard kickoff return and two additional Rodgers touchdowns to Ernest Ceasar helped Texas Wesleyan pull ahead.
Rodgers threw for 429 yards and five touchdowns, while Wayland's Davian Guajardo tallied 347 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Since 2017, Texas Wesleyan holds a 5-1 record against Texas College, including a dominant 72-16 win on Oct. 28, 2023. Averaging over 48 points per game in this matchup, the Rams have outscored Texas College by 289 points across six games.
The Rams will host Texas College on Saturday at Crowley Multi-Purpose Stadium for Homecoming, with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
