CHICKASHA, OK— The Texas Wesleyan Rams secured a dramatic 50-48 road victory against the University of Science and Arts on Saturday afternoon at Drover Fieldhouse.
The win lifts Texas Wesleyan to a 5-1 overall record and 2-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while the Drovers drop to 4-2 and 2-1 in conference action.
The defense set the tone early for the Rams, who opened the game with strong rebounding and timely steals.
Kameryn Phillips led the way with a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds, including a critical basket late in the fourth quarter to stave off the Drovers' comeback.
Savanna Smith added 12 points, hitting four three-pointers, and was pivotal on both ends of the floor.
The Rams took a slim 10-9 lead after the first quarter, buoyed by Smith's three-point shooting and a solid rebounding effort from Iasia Goldman.
Science and Arts responded in the second quarter, but Texas Wesleyan's fast breaks and bench contributions helped the Rams outscore the Drovers 22-14 in the period.
Phillips closed the half with eight points, including key free throws, to give the Rams a 32-25 advantage.
In the third quarter, Texas Wesleyan maintained its defensive intensity. Imani Mitchell provided crucial energy with a fast-break layup, and Sophia Hurtado chipped in with strong rebounding to preserve a 43-34 lead heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter was a battle as Science and Arts rallied to tie the game multiple times.
The Rams held firm, with Giani Wimbish-Gay recording a crucial block and Hurtado securing pivotal rebounds.
A late jumper by Phillips and Mitchell's free throw in the closing seconds proved decisive.

Texas Wesleyan shot 33.9% from the field and outrebounded Science and Arts 43-35.
The Rams return to the Sid Richardson Center at 6 p.m. on Tuesday to host Nelson University.
