WBB: Rams Beat Oklahoma Wesleyan to Remain Undefeated

FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan 78-63 in a decisive performance, advancing to a 2-0 season start.

They established an early lead in the first quarter, outscoring Oklahoma Wesleyan 23-17, and maintained control throughout the game. Despite a slight dip in the third quarter, where they were outscored 20-17, Texas Wesleyan bounced back in the fourth, finishing strong with a 20-point final quarter.

Taryn Wills led the scoring for Texas Wesleyan with 17 points, shooting 7-for-16 from the field and contributing four rebounds and two steals. Kameryn Phillips added 11 points and provided solid defensive support with two steals. Off the bench, Sophia Hurtado chipped in 10 points and six rebounds, showing efficiency from the free-throw line by making six of her eight attempts.

Texas Wesleyan's depth was apparent, with bench players contributing 25 points. They also demonstrated tenacity on defense, generating 28 points off turnovers and limiting Oklahoma Wesleyan's second-chance opportunities. Their shooting was efficient at 39.1% overall, with a strong 41.7% from beyond the arc, and 70.4% from the free-throw line.

Oklahoma Wesleyan's Zariah Tillman tried to keep her team competitive with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Haley Meely added 16 points. However, Oklahoma Wesleyan struggled with accuracy, particularly from three-point range, hitting only 15.4% of their attempts. The team was plagued by turnovers, committing 23, which Texas Wesleyan capitalized on to widen their lead.

The Rams will conclude play in the Texas Wesleyan Invitational with a 2 p.m. tipp-off in the Sid Richardson Center against Friends University.
