WAXAHACHIE, TX - On Friday, Texas Wesleyan beat SAGU 15-11 in a game featuring 28 runs, 30 hits, and eight errors.
SAGU took the lead in the 1st inning, capitalizing on an error by the Texas Wesleyan shortstop. However, the Rams responded in the 2nd inning, as Ryan Flores scored on an error by the catcher, tying the game at 2-2.
The 4th inning proved crucial for Texas Wesleyan, as they exploded for seven runs. R. Garcia's single to center field and a series of walks and hits by Brandon Rincones, Hayden Hutchens, Flores, Chase Cos, and Logan Silvertooth propelled them to an 8-2 lead.
SAGU fought back in the 6th inning, with Jared Kirk's double and subsequent hits by Avery Chatman, Andrew Ortiz, and Wesley Flatt narrowing the gap. Despite Texas Wesleyan's efforts to extend their lead, SAGU continued to respond, keeping the game intense.
The final innings saw both teams showcasing solid defensive plays, with the pitchers facing numerous challenges. Texas Wesleyan's starting pitcher Sutton Tidwell and the seven relief pitchers collectively secured the win, credited to Tidwell.
The Rams improved their season record to 11-6 and 1-0 in conference play, while SAGU's record moved to 11-9 and 0-1 in conference play.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader, with the first games scheduled to start at noon in Waxahachie.
