FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan's women's soccer team secured a decisive 5-0 victory over Wiley College on August 26, 2024, at Martin Field, elevating their record to 1-2-0 for the season. Wiley College remains winless with a 0-4-0 record.
Texas Wesleyan controlled the game's pace from the start. The first breakthrough came at 32:18 when
Maribel Vargas scored her first goal of the season, assisted by
Alexa Bezpalko. The home team's momentum continued with Bezpalko herself finding the back of the net just before halftime, assisted by
Gracie Spradley at 43:22.
In the second half, Texas Wesleyan maintained their dominance. Bezpalko scored again at 54:09, this time with an assist from
Mikayla Trevino, bringing the score to 3-0. Shortly after, at 57:32, Kaitlyn Valitas added to the lead with a goal assisted by Trevino. The final goal came at 65:21, when
Shannyn Hedgecoth, assisted by Bezpalko, sealed the 5-0 victory.
Wiley College struggled to keep up with Texas Wesleyan's relentless offense, managing just eight shots, six of which were on target. Their goalkeepers, Leah Ramirez and Destiny Allison, were busy throughout the game, making 12 saves.
On the other hand, Texas Wesleyan peppered Wiley's goal with 29 shots, 17 on target.
Maggie Campbell, Texas Wesleyan's goalkeeper, was solid when needed, making six saves to maintain a clean sheet.
The Rams will next play at home Saturday against the University of Houston at Victoria at 5 p.m. on Martin Field.
