MBB: Texas Wesleyan Prevails in Double Overtime Thriller Against Central Christian, 105-100

FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan outlasted Central Christian in a high-stakes double-overtime battle, earning a 105-100 victory on Thursday.

The Rams (12-4, 8-4 SAC) leaned on standout performances from Montez Young Jr. and Trey Sinegal to secure the win.

The Rams took a 46-37 lead into halftime, driven by balanced scoring and defensive intensity. Young Jr. and Richard Amaefule anchored the paint, while Vegas Evans and Matt Nero added timely three-pointers to extend the lead. Central Christian (8-6, 4-6 SAC) closed the gap late in the half with sharp shooting from Jevarrick Butler and Chris Whitten, but Texas Wesleyan held firm.

In the second half, the Rams pushed the lead to 14 early, fueled by Nero's three-pointer and a layup from Evans. Central Christian surged back behind Butler, who tallied a game-high 30 points, and Whitten, who added 24. The Tigers tied the game late, sending it into overtime at 81-81 after a tense closing sequence.

The first overtime saw both teams trading blows, with Sinegal hitting a key three-pointer and Young Jr. sinking clutch free throws. Central Christian's Omari Maulana kept the Tigers alive with late free throws, but a missed buzzer-beater by Whitten left the score tied at 88.

In the second overtime, Young Jr. took over, scoring 11 of his 26 points in the period. Nero's three-pointer and baskets by Evans and Sinegal gave the Rams a decisive edge. Central Christian's Travis King and Jaeden Whitten made late pushes, but Texas Wesleyan's defense and free-throw accuracy sealed the win.

Sinegal finished with 30 points and 11 rebounds, while Nero added 24 points, including six three-pointers. Evans chipped in 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Young Jr. recorded 13 rebounds to complement his scoring outburst. The Rams' bench contributed 29 points, underscoring the team's depth.

Texas Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday in the Sid Richardson Center at 3:45 p.m. against Southwestern Christian.
