WBB: Rams Beat Eagles at Home, 64-58

FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan University secured a 64-58 victory over Southwestern Christian University at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.

The win improved the Rams to 12-5 overall and 8-5 in SAC play, while Southwestern Christian fell to 6-12 overall and 5-10 in conference play.

The opening quarter saw both teams struggling offensively, with missed opportunities characterizing the early minutes. With 8:23 left in the frame, Southwestern Christian's Kennedy Allison broke the deadlock with a jumper. Texas Wesleyan's Kameryn Phillips responded with a layup, but Allison's consistent scoring helped Southwestern Christian take a 14-11 lead after one quarter. Phillips and Savanna Smith provided key contributions for the Rams, with Smith hitting a critical three-pointer to keep Texas Wesleyan within reach.

The Rams found their rhythm in the second quarter, starting with Kamryn Gibson's free throws and a layup from Imani Mitchell. The play of Taryn Wills and Sophia Hurtado and Phillips' consistency at the line helped build a 28-24 halftime lead.

The third quarter featured back-and-forth action, with the Rams maintaining their advantage. Wills and Phillips continued to lead the Rams offensively, while SCU leaned on Allison's scoring to stay in contention. A late three-pointer from Ani Sanford extended the Rams' lead to seven, and Mitchell's timely free throws provided a cushion heading into the final period.

Texas Wesleyan weathered a late push from the Eagles in the final quarter. Phillips led the charge, adding crucial baskets and converting free throws in the closing minutes. Despite three-pointers from Southwestern Christian's Delaney Reimer and key contributions by Chrissen Harland, the Rams held firm. Smith and Hurtado chipped in with pivotal scores, and Mitchell's clutch free throws sealed the victory.

Phillips led Texas Wesleyan with 19 points and six rebounds, while Mitchell added 11 points. Southwestern Christian's Allison finished with a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds.

The Rams will travel on the road Monday to play Nelson University, with the game scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
