OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Texas Wesleyan University delivered a dominant performance, defeating Oklahoma City University 98-53 on Thursday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Rams showcased their depth and efficiency, improving to 9-4 overall and 5-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while the Stars fell to 8-6 overall and 4-6 in the SAC.
The Rams set the tone early, building a 45-25 lead by halftime. Trey Sinegal led the offensive charge with 18 points, including two three-pointers and a fastbreak dunk. Montez Young Jr. was pivotal in the paint, contributing a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds. The Rams' defense stifled the Stars, forcing 25 turnovers and converting them into 36 points.
Texas Wesleyan excelled in the second half, shooting an impressive 60.6% from the field. Key contributions came from Anthony Sierras, who tallied 11 points, including three three-pointers, and Vegas Evans, who added 15 points. Matt Nero anchored the team with nine rebounds and 13 points while distributing five assists.
The Rams dominated in multiple areas, scoring 52 points in the paint and tallying 21 second-chance points. Their bench provided 34 points, with Hamilton Wallace Gonclaves de Souza and Anthony Sierras leading the charge.
Oklahoma City struggled to find a rhythm against Texas Wesleyan's relentless defense. Clayton Jewell led the Stars with 12 points and five rebounds, while Neil Rice added 11 points off the bench. Despite brief offensive sparks, the Stars were held to 37.7% shooting and managed just four three-pointers on 19 attempts.
Texas Wesleyan's largest lead of the game, 45 points, came in the final minute, solidifying a comprehensive victory. The Rams' balanced attack and tenacious defense underscore their potential as SAC contenders.
The Rams return to action Saturday to host Mid-America University at the Sid Richardson Center. Tip-off is set for 3:45 pm.
