CHICKASHA - Texas Wesleyan University (2-5-2, 0-2-0 SAC) displayed grit and determination in a challenging match against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (6-2-3, 1-0-1 SAC), despite falling 5-0 on Tuesday.
The Rams, led by goalkeepers Hannah Smith and Ally Kolba, faced a barrage of shots from a potent Science and Arts offense. Smith, who started the game, made six saves in the first half, while Kolba added two saves after taking over in the second half. Their efforts kept Texas Wesleyan competitive, thwarting numerous scoring opportunities by the Drovers.
Texas Wesleyan showed offensive spark with shots from Bailey Clark and Haley Ellis, both stopped by Science and Arts goalkeepers Ashlyn Lonberg and Cato Hilgenkamp. Clark's attempt in the 38th minute and Ellis' shot in the 72nd minute highlighted the Rams' persistence in seeking scoring chances against a strong defensive unit.
Science and Arts opened the scoring in the 10th minute with Paula Casajus finding the net, assisted by Clara Rodriguez. Casajus struck twice more in the first half, completing a hat trick with assists from Ashlee Davison. Dagbjort Gudmundsdottir added a goal in the 16th minute, and Daniela Salinas scored in the 54th minute, assisted by Emali Goulas, to round out the Drovers' tally.
Despite the scoreline, Texas Wesleyan's substitutions, including Haley Ellis, Shannon Middleton, and Natalie Ipina, brought fresh energy to the pitch. The Rams' defense, anchored by players like Yareli Mendoza and Katheryn Cameron, worked tirelessly to limit further damage against a relentless Science and Arts attack that recorded 22 shots, 11 on goal.
The Rams remain on the road in conference play with a match Saturday at 1 p.m against Central Christian College of Kansas.
