KANSAS CITY — Texas Wesleyan sophomore kicker Freddy Joya shattered a school record with 19 points, drilling 4-for-4 field goals including a 34-yarder, plus seven perfect PATs in the Rams' 61-28 rout of Louisiana Christian.
On Monday (Oct. 13), Joya earned NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week honors. His field goals—21, 22, 27, and 34 yards—were flawless, with three coming in the second half and accounting for all Rams scoring in the third quarter, backing seven touchdowns.
The victory propelled Texas Wesleyan to No. 19 in the Netting Professionals NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The 4-2 Rams hit the road Saturday against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas.
