FB: Texas Wesleyan Dominates Arkansas Baptist College in 38-0 Shutout

FORT WORTH — Texas Wesleyan University (3-2-0, 3-0-0 SAC) delivered a commanding 38-0 victory over Arkansas Baptist College (2-3-0, 1-2-0 SAC) on Saturday, showcasing a potent rushing attack and a stifling defense. The Rams (3-2) controlled the game from start to finish, scoring in every quarter while holding the Buffaloes (0-5) scoreless in a one-sided affair at Farrington Field.

The Rams struck first late in the opening quarter when quarterback Cole Francis punched in a 1-yard touchdown run, capping an 11-play, 59-yard drive that consumed nearly seven minutes. Kicker Freddy Joya's extra point gave Texas Wesleyan a 7-0 lead. The second quarter saw the Rams extend their advantage with a 33-yard field goal from Joya and a 23-yard touchdown pass from Francis to Jacody Miles, making the score 17-0 at halftime.

Texas Wesleyan's ground game exploded in the third quarter, highlighted by Mark Benjamin's 73-yard touchdown run on the first play of the drive, pushing the lead to 24-0. The Rams' defense continued to dominate, forcing three punts and intercepting two passes from Arkansas Baptist quarterbacks Tyler Stricklan and Sedrick Hill Jr. Sir Hill and Jarvis Solomon each snagged interceptions, thwarting any Buffalo momentum.

In the fourth quarter, Texas Wesleyan sealed the rout with two more touchdowns. Chris Thomas broke free for a 27-yard scoring run, and Tony Roberson added a 2-yard touchdown plunge. Joya was perfect on extra points, finishing 5-for-5. The Rams amassed 262 rushing yards, with Benjamin leading the way with 115 yards on 11 carries. Francis completed 10 of 21 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown, while also contributing on the ground.

Arkansas Baptist struggled offensively, managing just 141 total yards. Darryl Searcy led the Buffaloes with 63 rushing yards, including a 44-yard run late in the game, but it wasn't enough to spark a comeback. The Buffaloes were plagued by penalties, including false starts and a costly hands-to-the-face infraction, and failed to convert key third downs, going 3-for-15.

Texas Wesleyan's defense, led by Jordan Crawford and Daniel Aigbogun, recorded three sacks and forced a fumble, ensuring the shutout. The Rams' next game is against Ottawa University Arizona, while Arkansas Baptist faces Langston University.
