GOODWELL - Texas Wesleyan University *6-3, 6-0 SAC) forced four turnovers in a 46-12 rout of Oklahoma Panhandle State University (3-5, 2-4 SAC)in Sooner Athletic Conference play Saturday.
The Rams remained unbeaten in SACÂ action, scoring on their first eight drives to establish a 39-7 lead after three quarters. Joya was flawless from 20, 38, 16, 39 and 34 yards, with Max Luna adding a 48-yarder.
Tony Roberson led the offense with 84 rushing yards on 20 carries and touchdowns of 1 and 8 yards, plus five receptions for 85 yards. Ashton Mitchell chipped in 36 rushing yards and scores from 2 and 16 yards.
Cole Francis went 14 of 29 for 223 passing yards without a turnover, adding 29 yards on the ground. Texas Wesleyan totaled 455 yards to OPSU's 224, holding the ball for 32:36.
The defense recorded nine tackles for loss (34 yards) and two sacks, with Ryan Seymour posting 2.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Sir Hill and Deylon Rodgers had interceptions, with Hill returning his 26 yards.
Oklahoma Panhandle State was hampered by 10 penalties for 99 yards and 3-of-14 third-down conversions. David Zeller sparked the Aggies with a 97-yard kickoff return touchdown in the second quarter, closing to 16-7.
Chance Guadiz completed 11 of 22 passes for 96 yards with two interceptions, rushing for 35 yards. Rylan Johnson gained 43 rushing yards. OPSU added a safety by tackling Eugene Burnett in the end zone and Carlos Vazquez's 31-yard field goal.
Texas Wesleyan's ground game averaged 4.3 yards per carry on 42 attempts, while limiting OPSU to 3.5 on 31 rushes.
The Rams were 8 for 8 in the red zone (four TDs, four FGs) and 7 of 16 on third downs.
The Rams return home to play No. 12 Ottawa University of Arizona on Saturday at Crowley Multi-Purpose Stadium at 2 p.m.
