LANGSTON —
Lyric Biggiers had seven kills and Texas Wesleyan University (22-5, 19-1 SAC) dominated from the service line with 10 aces in a 3-0 sweep of Langston University (9-20, 5-15 SAC) on Saturday.
The Rams won 25-12, 25-14, 25-10 at C.F. Gayles Field House, hitting .233 as a team while holding the Lions to a minus-.128 attack percentage with 24 errors against just 14 kills.
Texas Wesleyan never trailed in any set, using strong blocking and serving runs to pull away early and often. The Rams totaled 11 blocks and forced Langston into numerous attacking miscues, limiting the Lions to single-digit kills per set.
In the opener, Texas Wesleyan jumped to a 5-0 lead behind kills from Biggiers and
Victoria Smith, plus blocks from
Sydney Alexander. Langston briefly rallied to 17-10 on kills from Teia Woodson and Ayanna Moore, but the Rams closed with an 8-2 run, including aces from
Lillian Breaux.
The second set saw similar dominance, with Texas Wesleyan building a 7-3 edge on Alexander's blocks and
Migdaly Bernal's efficient hitting.
Emily Lewis added two aces in a 6-0 run that pushed the lead to 17-11, and the Rams cruised from there despite Moore's five kills for Langston.
Texas Wesleyan sealed the match in the third, racing to 8-3 behind Bernal's 6-for-7 attacking (.857 percentage overall) and four aces from
Baylor Rodgers.
Hanna Rubis contributed four kills across the match, while
Ruby Rumohr dished out 14 assists and Breaux added nine.
Smith finished with five kills and 2.5 blocks for the Rams, who recorded 39 digs led by Lewis' 11. Alexander had three kills and six blocks.
Moore paced Langston with five kills and 1.5 blocks. Ia'neiah Spears added three kills and six digs, but the Lions struggled with five service errors and just two aces.
The win keeps Texas Wesleyan atop the SAC standings, and return home to play Wayland on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Sid Richardson Center.
