WBB: Rams Lose Third Straight

BETHANY, Okla. — Texas Wesleyan (6-6, 2-5 SAC) fell to Southwestern Christian (6-5, 4-4 SAC), 77-62, as the Eagles pulled away with a 23-point fourth quarter. Despite the Rams' 34 rebounds and 17 points from the bench, they were unable to overcome 16 turnovers and Southwestern Christian's 13 three-pointers.

Texas Wesleyan opened play by responding to an early deficit with efficient shooting from beyond the arc, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Kyla Speights at 6:08, which narrowed the gap to 8-5. The team continued to press with a balanced offense, as Payton Foster and Sophia Hurtado each contributed key 3-pointers, keeping the score close throughout the quarter. Despite a late 3-pointer from Jenae Moore pulling the Rams within one point with 30 seconds remaining, Southwestern Christian ended the quarter with a 3-pointer in the final seconds. Texas Wesleyan trailed 24-20 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Rams' Kameryn Phillips kept the team competitive by scoring six points, including a pair of free throws at 6:17 to tighten the gap. Nala Richardson added a crucial 3-pointer at 4:39, cutting the lead to four points. However, the Eagles capitalized on turnovers, increasing their lead with efficient shooting. The quarter concluded with Southwestern Christian ahead 39–29.

Texas Wesleyan surged in the third quarter with a consistent offensive effort, highlighted by a critical 3-pointer from Payton Foster at 5:22, cutting the deficit to just six points. Phillips was instrumental, contributing with both scoring and defensive plays, including a steal that led to a quick basket at 8:38. Southwestern Christian briefly regained momentum, but the Rams closed the quarter strong, securing a narrow 55-54 lead on Speights' last-second 3-pointer.

In the final quarter, the Rams struggled to maintain momentum as Southwestern Christian capitalized on turnovers, resulting in a decisive swing. Despite efforts from Nala Richardson and Kayla Fuller, who combined for four points in the paint, Texas Wesleyan faced difficulties with ball control, turning it over seven times. Southwestern Christian's Brooke Robertson and Kaydrin Scott each hit crucial three-pointers early in the quarter, fueling a run that extended their lead. The quarter concluded with Southwestern Christian outscoring Texas Wesleyan 23-7, leading to a final score of 77-62.

Phillips led the team with 22 points, converting 10 of 15 free throws, and collected four rebounds. Speights contributed 10 points, including two 3-pointers, and recorded two steals. Foster added nine points with three successful 3-pointers and grabbed three rebounds. Iasia Goldman provided defensive support with two blocks and collected five rebounds.
