The Rams capitalized on their rebounding advantage, grabbing 51 total boards, including 18 on the offensive end.

The game commenced with a closely contested first half, as Texas Wesleyan and Wayland Baptist traded leads. The Rams initially established a 7-point lead at the 9:07 mark following a layup and free throw by Matt Nero. The Pioneers countered through the efforts of Brett Leach, whose free throws helped trim the deficit. As the half progressed, both teams engaged in a series of turnovers and missed opportunities.
