FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (13-3) used a five-run eighth inning to secure a 7-4 comeback victory over Wiley College (9-5) on Monday at Sycamore Park.
The Rams trailed 3-1, entering the bottom of the seventh before Rody Garcia sparked the rally with a solo home run. Texas Wesleyan then capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting in the eighth to take control. Ryan Kramer scored on a passed ball to tie the game, and an error allowed the go-ahead run to cross. Logan Silvertooth, Eric DeAnda, and Gabriel Supelveda each added RBI hits to extend the lead to 7-3.
Wiley took a brief lead in the fifth inning when J. Rodriguez reached on an error, allowing two unearned runs to score. Rodriguez later doubled home another run in the seventh, followed by J. Perez's RBI fielder's choice.
Seth Wright (2-0) earned the win for Texas Wesleyan, tossing a scoreless eighth inning. Jorge Carvajal recorded his fifth save with a dominant ninth, striking out three. Starter Sutton Tidwell pitched three shutout innings with six strikeouts.
E. Jones (0-1) took the loss for Wiley, surrendering five runs (two earned) in 1.2 innings of relief. J. Porter provided a strong start, allowing just one run over six innings with nine strikeouts.
Garcia led Texas Wesleyan's offense with four hits, while Silvertooth and Supelveda each contributed two hits and an RBI. Wiley finished with nine hits but left seven runners on base.
The Rams will open conference play on the road against Nelson University this weekend.
