BB: Texas Wesleyan Drops Two-Game Series to Nelson

WAXAHACHIE  – Texas Wesleyan University (13-6, 0-3 SAC) struggled to generate offense in Game 1 and fell short in a comeback effort in Game 2, dropping both matchups against Nelson University (13-6, 3-0 SAC) in a two-game series on Sunday.

In the opener, the Rams were stifled by Nelson's Ryan Avalos, who threw a complete-game shutout in a 4-0 loss. Texas Wesleyan managed just two hits, a double from Ryan Flores and a single from Marcos Carrion. The Rams' best scoring opportunity came in the third inning when Flores' double put a runner in scoring position, but they could not capitalize.

David Theriot (0-1) took the loss on the mound, allowing two runs over 2.2 innings while striking out three. Seth Wright and Jacob Guzman combined for 3.1 innings of relief, surrendering just one earned run. Defensively, Texas Wesleyan turned a double play but couldn't contain Nelson's timely hitting.

In Game 2, Texas Wesleyan showed resilience but fell 15-8 after an early eight-run deficit. The Rams clawed their way back with a three-run fifth and sixth inning, cutting the lead to 10-8 before Nelson pulled away.

Brendon Vela led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and a sacrifice fly. Tim Escamilla added two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored. The Rams finished with 13 hits but couldn't overcome Nelson's offensive surge.

Starting pitcher Travis Belz (0-1) took the loss after being chased in the first inning, allowing six runs. Jorge Carvajal provided a bright spot on the mound, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings in relief.

The Rams will play their next game Tuesday on the road against Jarvis Christian University at 1 p.m.
