FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (9-0) extended its undefeated start to the 2025 season with a doubleheader sweep over Midland College (0-2) on Friday at Sycamore Park, winning the opener 8-5 before securing a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
In Game 1, Midland jumped ahead early with two runs in the first inning, but the Rams responded as Brendon Vela drove in Ryan Flores to cut the deficit to 2-1. Texas Wesleyan surged ahead in the third, scoring four runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Tahir Meulens. The Rams extended their lead in the sixth, capitalizing on a Midland error and a Rody Garcia RBI single to push the score to 8-3.
Sutton Tidwell (3-0) earned the win, allowing three runs over four innings, while Jorge Carvajal recorded his third save. Vela led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, helping Texas Wesleyan secure the victory.
The Rams carried their momentum into Game 2, edging Midland 2-1 in a tightly contested battle. Tim Escamilla put Texas Wesleyan on the board in the second inning, reaching on a fielder's choice that allowed Meulens to score. Midland tied the game in the third on a J. Hardamon RBI double, but the Rams broke the deadlock in the seventh when Escamilla scored on a wild pitch.
Travis Belz delivered a strong start, tossing six innings while allowing one run on four hits. Jacob Guzman (2-0) sealed the win with a scoreless seventh inning.
Midland will play a doubleheader against the University of Houston at Victoria tomorrow, and the Rams will play UHV in a doubleheader on Sunday, with game one at noon, followed by game two at 3 p.m.
