WBB: Texas Wesleyan Defeats College of the Ozarks, Wills Joins 1,000-Point Club

FORT WORTH, TX — Texas Wesleyan University (16-7, 13-7 SAC)secured a 68-61 victory over College of the Ozarks (15-9, 13-7 SAC) on Saturday at the Sid Richardson Center, highlighted by Taryn Wills' milestone achievement and a strong second-half performance.

Wills became the 17th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, hitting a mid-range jumper in the second quarter. She led the Rams with 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting in the crucial conference win.

The teams knotted up with 17 points each after the first quarter before the Rams pulled ahead, outscoring the Bobcats 19-15 in the second. Wills helped fuel the offensive surge with six consecutive points, including her historic basket at the 6:41 marker. Defensively, the Rams pressured College of the Ozarks into 19 turnovers, with Kamryn Gibson and Kameryn Phillips leading the effort.

Texas Wesleyan extended its advantage in the third quarter, limiting the Bobcats to 11 points. Sophia Hurtado contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, while Phillips added 10 points, four rebounds, and three steals.

College of the Ozarks (15-9, 13-7) Susanna Moran led the Ozarks by posting a game-high 25 points and 17 rebounds. However, the Bobcats struggled offensively, with Taylor Rush and Logan Jones combining for just 11 points on 4-of-20 shooting.

The Bobcats trimmed the deficit to three in the fourth quarter after consecutive three-pointers from Rush, but Texas Wesleyan responded with key baskets from Wills and Hurtado. Gibson sealed the victory with two free throws in the final seconds.

Texas Wesleyan shot 39.7% from the field and converted 21 of 31 free-throw attempts. College of the Ozarks hit just 15.4% (4-of-26) from three-point range.

The Rams will return to action on Monday night inside the Sid Richardson Center at 6 p.m. against Langston University.
