BB: Wayland Baptist Eliminates Texas Wesleyan in SAC Quarterfinals

PLAINVIEW – Despite a gritty effort, Texas Wesleyan University (1-2) saw its season come to an end in the Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Championship quarterfinals, falling to Wayland Baptist University (2-1) in a best-of-three series.

Wayland Baptist claimed the opener, 12-7, on Friday, capitalizing on a fast start and Texas Wesleyan's defensive miscues. The Rams fell behind early after surrendering five first-inning runs, and four errors proved costly.

Despite the setbacks, Texas Wesleyan tallied seven hits and drew nine walks, with Rody Garcia, Ryan Flores, Dylan Masanda, and Gabriel Supelveda each driving in runs. Noah Huerta (1-3) took the loss, while Seth Wright provided stability out of the bullpen with six solid innings.

In Game Two, the Rams battled back with a hard-fought 6-4 win to even the series. Brendon Vela's three-hit night and Tahir Meulens' decisive three-run homer in the ninth propelled the Rams. Logan Silvertooth added a solo shot, while Noah Huerta (2-3) earned the win and Jacob Guzman notched his third save.

However, Wayland Baptist dominated the decisive Game Three, using a five-run sixth inning to secure a 5-1 victory. Jorge Carvajal (5-4) suffered the loss despite striking out seven for the Rams. Wayland's Tyson Potts earned the win by limiting Texas Wesleyan to three hits over seven innings.

The series concluded the Rams 2025 season compiling an overall record of 27-24, while also finishing eighth in the conference with a 10-16 record.
