OKLAHOMA CITY — Texas Wesleyan Uniersity (25-17, 11-12 SAC)dropped the series opener to Mid-America Christian University (30-11, 17-6 SAC) 14-1 on Monday at Putnam City High School.
The Rams were held to just two hits in the loss, while the Evangels exploded for 16 hits and took advantage of three Wesleyan errors.
Mid-America Christian jumped ahead early with a two-run homer from D. Gaines in the first inning. The Evangels added three more in the third, highlighted by a solo homer from T. Sakuma and a pair of unearned runs. MACU continued to pile on, scoring in every inning but the second, including a seven-run fifth capped by a three-run blast from C. Munoz.
Texas Wesleyan's lone run came in the sixth when Brandon Rincones scored on a wild pitch after reaching on a single — one of just two hits for the Rams. Ryan Flores recorded the other hit, a double in the sixth.
Noah Huerta (1-2) took the loss for the Rams, allowing two earned runs in two innings of work. In total, four Texas Wesleyan pitchers combined to allow 14 runs — 12 earned — on 16 hits.
Brock Cordes (4-0) earned the win for MACU, tossing six innings of two-hit baseball with six strikeouts.
