CHICKASHA, OK – Texas Wesleyan University (20-24) competed in the Sooner Athletic Tournament this weekend, falling to both Oklahoma Panhandle State University (26-25) and Wayland Baptist University (21-29).
In game one, the Rams faced off with the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Aggies got things started with a stolen base home to put them on the board. Just one inning later the Aggies hit a solo home run, then had two RBI singles to put them up 4-0. In the top of the fourth the Aggies once again added to their lead with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the fourth, the Rams got on the board with
Jaelin Ornelas hitting into a groundout, but still scored
Haylie Delarosa to close the gap to 5-1.
Later in the bottom of the seventh, the Rams added some more as Delarosa hit a two RBI single, but that was all she wrote for the Rams in game one as they fell to the Aggies by a score of 7-3.
Abbie Bird took home the loss, causing her season record to fall to 10-12.
In game two, an elimination game, the Rams faced off with the Pioneers of Wayland Baptist. The Pioneers struck early with an RBI single to end the first inning 1-0. Later in the top of the third, the Pioneers put together a strong inning as they scored four runs to really build their lead on the Rams. The Pioneers had three RBI hits in the top of the third, all scored due to errors on the Rams. The Pioneers added to their lead one more time in the top of the sixth as they built up their lead to 6-0. The Rams offense was unable to string any hits together to produce runs and they ultimately fell in game two.
Kylie Barnes was tacked with the loss as she goes 11-11 on the season.
The Rams season ends with a 20-24 record and a first-round exit in the conference tournament. The Rams will look forward to a solid season in 2026.
