VB: Rams Sweep Evangels; Extend Win Streak to Four

FORT WORTH - Texas Wesleyan University (7-4, 4-0 SAC) defeated Mid-America Christian University (8-4, 3-2 SAC) 3-0 in three sets with scores of (25-18, 26-24, and 25-17). This win helps the Rams stay undefeated in conference and extended their win streak to four games.

In the first set, the Rams and Evangels started out even as each team was keeping pace with the other. Both teams found themselves tied at 8-8 early on in the set, each one looking to take control of the set. The Rams created a bit of separation with kills from Migdaly Bernal and Hanna Rubis to put the Rams up 13-10. The Rams proceeded to outscore the Evangels 12-8 to take the set. The Rams had some major help from Bernal who recorded two service aces as well as Sydeny Alexander who helped with two kill blocks and added a kill of her own to help the Rams secure the first set by a score of 25-18. 

In the second set the Rams were looking to extend their lead, while the Evangels were looking to strike back and even things up. Kills from Lyric Biggiers and Loes Peijnenburg aided the Rams early as they found themselves up 8-5 on the Evangels. The Rams tried to create a bigger gap between the two, but the Evangels kept things within reach and eventually found themslves tied 18-18 with the set nearing a close. Both teams were neck and neck with every point becoming more and more intense to try and take the set. Biggiers once again helped the Rams with two kills to put the Rams up 25-24 late in the set. The Evangels, on their heels, couldn't regain any balance as Rubis finished off the set with a service ace, helping the Rams win the second set with a score of 26-24.

Going into the third set the Rams held a 2-0 set lead over the Evangels and were looking to make it a sweep. The Rams offense started off strong and produced four kills to help them start the set ahead 7-4 early on. The Rams continued their offensive performance with five more kills, extending their lead 15-10 with taking control of the set in mind. The Rams continued to show their offensive dominance along with some strong defensive efforts to keep their lead all the way to the end. Biggiers and Rubis teamed up to shut the door on a hopeful Evangel comeback and helped the Rams win the third set by a score of 25-17.

Biggiers led the team with 11 kills, followed by Alexander with eight and Rubis with seven. Ruby Rumohr had 19 assists to aid the Rams attack today, followed by Lillian Breaux with 11. Emily Lewis had 21 digs in today's match, her second most all season. Alexander also added six blocks and Rubis added three service aces.

The Rams will face off with (RV) Nelson University on Tuesday, September 16 at 7pm in the Sid Richardson Center.
