FORT WORTH - Texas Wesleyan University (2-3-2, 0-0-0) defeated Texas A&M University - San Antonio (0-4-1, 0-0-0) by a score of 4-2 in a tightly contested match Wednesday afternoon.
In the first half, the Rams got started early with a shot from
Gracie Spradley that found the back of the net to put the Rams up 1-0 at the 9:20 mark. The Jaguars came back with several shots on goal, and eventually got the equalizer at 18:12. The Rams continued to put pressure on the Jaguars defense with four more shots, but the Jaguars scored once again to take a 2-1 lead going into the half. The Rams offense was strong inside the box, just unable to convert and take the lead.
The second half began with the Rams once again firing at the Jaguars defense trying to get the equalizer. The Rams found the net once again with a goal from
Akacia Robles in the 59th minute to tie the score 2-2. The Rams continued to show their offensive presence with another goal in the 74th minute from
Natalie Ipina. Spradley once again continued to shred the Jaguars with yet another goal in the closing minutes of the match, her second goal of the game. That final goal helped the Rams stretch their lead and win 4-2 to improve to 2-3-2 on the season.
Spradley and Ipina led the Rams offense with four shots each,
Jessica Jones added two shots on goal as well to help keep the Jaguars off balance. "We started out slow in the first half, but the second half was the best soccer I've seen us play so far, Hopefully this is a big turning point for us for the season" head coach Katie Bond said.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday, September 24 at 4pm against Wiley University in Marshall, TX.
