MGOLF: Fielder Earns National Player of the Week after Record Performance

KANSAS CITY Kolbe Fielder, a sophomore from North Richland Hills, Texas, shattered a 64-year-old Texas Wesleyan three-round scoring record last week at the Northwestern Iowa National Invitational, posting a 16-under-par 197 over three days.

On Wednesday, Sept. 24, Fielder was named NAIA Men's Golfer of the Week.

Fielder opened the tournament with a 3-under-par 68, carding six birdies. He followed with a 6-under-par 65 in the second round, highlighted by an eagle, five birdies and one bogey. His 36-hole total of 133 ranks second in Texas Wesleyan history.

In the final round, Fielder cemented his place in the record books with a 7-under-par 64, featuring another eagle and six birdies, surpassing Ricky Kuenstler's 1961 record.

The Texas Wesleyan Rams return to competition Oct. 6-7 at the University of the Southwest in New Mexico.

The NAIA names Men's Golfer of the Week every Wednesday through Oct. 22. The award resumes March 4 and continues weekly through April 22.
