MBB: Turner Leads Texas Wesleyan to Commanding Win

FORT WORTH — Texas Wesleyan University (15-5, 11-4 SAC) secured a decisive 74-54 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State University (3-17, 1-14 SAC) on Senior Day at the Sid Richardson Center.

 The Rams held a commanding 25-point lead midway through the second half, demonstrating consistent control throughout the game.

Notably, Texas Wesleyan achieved at least 41 total rebounds for the second consecutive game, showcasing their dominance on the boards.

The game began with Oklahoma Panhandle State's Ja'Vian Baker scoring a jumper to take an early lead, but the Rams responded quickly with a three-pointer from DaeVeon Scott.

 As the first half progressed, Texas Wesleyan capitalized on turnovers and fast-break opportunities, led by Montez Young, Jr. and Daniel Oravbiere, who contributed key points in the paint.

By the 14:00 mark, the Rams had established a commanding presence, extending their lead to as much as 17 points. 

The home team maintained control throughout the half, ending the first half with a 37-24 advantage over Oklahoma Panhandle State.

Texas Wesleyan extended its lead in the second half, maintaining control against the Aggies. Young, Jr. opened with a tip-in at 19:41, setting the tone for the hosts. 

Khalil Turner contributed significantly, including a dunk at 18:41, as the Rams built a lead that reached 25 points at the 03:55 mark following a three-pointer from Jordan Burroughs

Despite Oklahoma's efforts, led by Christian Campbell's consistent scoring, Texas Wesleyan secured the half with a 37-30 advantage, closing the game with a 74-54 victory. 

During this period, Texas Wesleyan also achieved at least 25 defensive rebounds for the second consecutive game, highlighting their defensive effectiveness.

Scott scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and recorded two steals, showcasing his accuracy from beyond the arc.

Turner posted a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, contributing significantly on the boards. 

Young, Jr. added 14 points and collected 11 rebounds, providing a strong presence in the paint. Oravbiere contributed 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, displaying efficiency in his attempts. 

Additionally, the team totaled 69 field goal attempts, surpassing their season average of 60.69, reflecting their aggressive offensive strategy.
