HOBBS — Texas Wesleyan University placed three golfers among the top four individually, with Kolbe Fielder defeating teammate Colin Price in a five-hole playoff to claim the individual title at the Battling in the Desert on Monday and Tuesday at Rockwind Community Links.
Price and Fielder each finished the 54-hole tournament at 10 under par, forcing a playoff for the championship. After five playoff holes, Price prevailed to give the Rams the individual title.
Price opened with a 3-under 69 before shooting an 8-under 64 in the second round. He closed with a 1-over 73 to finish at 10 under for the tournament.
Fielder also finished at 10 under, matching Price's tournament total. He carded a 3-under 69 in the opening round, followed with a 2-under 70 and closed with a 5-under 67 to force the playoff.
Sebastian Velasquez gave Texas Wesleyan three of the tournament's top four finishers. Velasquez finished third at 8 under after rounds of 71, 66 and 71. His 6-under 66 in the second round was the lowest round of the tournament among the Rams.
Jose Manuel Sanchez tied for 13th at 1 under, finishing with rounds of 76, 71 and 68. Sanchez's 4-under 68 in the final round moved him up the leaderboard.
Haroon Aslam tied for 35th at 5 over after rounds of 72, 72 and 77.
Texas Wesleyan's A team finished at 16 under par, led by the 54-hole performances of Price, Fielder, Velasquez and Sanchez.
The Rams also entered a B team, which was led by T.J. Gigowski, who tied for 16th at even par. Gigowski carded rounds of 72, 68 and 76.
Joaquin Davila Bone tied for 35th at 5 over, followed by Jesper Brinchmann-Hansen in 40th at 6 over. Matisse Lassequin tied for 58th at 12 over, while Michael Stadler tied for 71st at 18 over.
