WBB: 2026-27 Rams Season Preview

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas Wesleyan University Woemn's Basketball Team enters the 2026-27 with the same expectations; be a top contender in the Sooner Athletic Conference. With a mix of some veterans and new faces in the program, the Rams are poised for a revamped season. Scott Hyland enters his fourth season with the Rams and looks to lead the Rams to a top four seed in the conference tournament.

2025-26 Season

The Rams finished the 2025-26 season with an overall record of 14-16 and 9-13 in conference play, clinching the eighth seed in the conference tournament after going on the road and beating No. 20 Langston and Central Christian College (Kan.). In the opening round of the conference tournament the Rams made history by knocking off the number one-seeded Lansgton University in a massive upset. Unfortunately, the Rams tournament run would end next round as they fell short to College of the Ozarks. In the regular season, the Rams finished top five in defense, holding opponents to an average of under 60 points a game. On the flip side, the Rams only averaged about 60 points per game, ranking in the bottom half on the conference. The Rams faced off with four nationally ranked teams last season, prepping them on where they need to be to play at the next level.

Hyland enters his fourth season

Scott Hyland enters his fourth season as the head coach of the women's basketball team. After three seasons he holds a 46-42 overall record and is looking to have a breakout season. With over 30 years of coaching experience, Hyland brings a wealth of knowledge to the Rams after producing numerous All-Conference players and knowing what it takes to get to the national tournament. In his previous three seasons with the Rams, he has placed eighth, fifth, and eighth again. In a tough conference, Hyland has made the Rams a consistent conference tournament team and has always given them a chance to compete as the highest level. Hyland will look to make another jump and push to be in the top four as they have their eyes set on Oklahoma City for the conference tournament.

The season outlook

The Rams start their 2026-27 campaign by hosting the Texas Wesleyan University Classic as they bring in Oklahoma Wesleyan and Keiser University. Of their six non-conference games, five of them are at home, giving the Rams a significant advantage heading into conference play that starts on November 19 against Central Christian College (Kan.). The Rams once again will begin conference play at home as they host Central Christian and Langston, giving the Rams an early home test. They will follow that up with hosting two more conference games against Nelson University and Mid-America Christian. The Rams were picked to finish seventh in the Sooner Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll and are looking to make some noise early to put themselves ahead. Prior to January, the Rams have 10 home games, giving them a home court advantage plenty of times to start the season.

The Rams opening tournament will take place on November 6 and 7 as they Rams take on Oklahoma Wesleyan on November 6 at 7pm and Keiser University on November 7 at 2pm.
