MARSHALL, TX - The Texas Wesleyan University tennis team traveled to east Texas to take on East Texas Baptist University. The men's tennis team battled, but fell short as they suffered their first loss of the season as the women swept the Tigers to start 2-0 on the season.

The match started with a fierce doubles battle as the Tigers took an early lead with a quick 6-1 victory in the number three doubles as
Carson Lajone and
Yoni Danzic couldn't capitalize on key points. Adrianao Andrade and
Ahmed Elkassas battled as the number one doubles pair, but ultimately fell 6-3 as the Tigers clinched the doubles point.
Alejo Zurmendi and
William Bayliss were the last doubles pair to finish up as they battled until the very end until they lost in a tiebreaker for the Tigers to win 7-6 and take all three doubles matches.
The Tigers were up 1-0 going into the singles matches and looking to capitalize on their momentum. Danzic took the lead as the number one singles, but lost in straight sets as he fell 6-3, 6-4. The number two singles player, Bayliss, had fallen 6-4 in the first set, but responded with a resounding second set win 6-0. Going into a third set tiebreaker, Bayliss battled in the third set tiebreaker, but ultimately fell 10-8. Andrade was the number three and looking to turn things around for the Rams. He battled in the three spot, but fell 6-3, 6-1 clinching the Tigers victory with three matches still to play. Zurmendi battled to a third set tiebreaker as well, but fell 3-10 in the final set, followed by the Tigers sweeping the number five and six singles as Aparicio fell 6-1, 6-1 and Elkassas fell 6-0, 6-0.

The women's match started with the Rams taking control early as the number one doubles pair in
Zeynep Ege and
Paulina Hudson claimed an early 6-0 victory, quickly followed by the number three doubles pair in
Meghan Connoly and Shelby Standoaks winning their matchup 6-1, giving the Rams the early doubles point to put them in the lead. Carla Fernandez and
Kaja Brunzlow ended much closer as they battled to a 7-5 victory as the number two doubles to give the Rams a sweep in doubles and a 1-0 lead going into the singles matches.
The Rams dominated the singles matches where they didn't even drop a single set to the Tigers. The Rams one through six all won in straight sets, starting with Ege who cruised past her opponent with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. In the number two singles, Hudson also made quick work with her opponent as she took a 6-3 first set victory, followed by a quick 6-1 victory to put the Rams up 3-0 in the match. Fernandez gave the Rams the match victory after she won 6-2, 6-4 in the number three singles, clinching the Rams match victory. Brunzlow, Connoly, and
Mai Tsushima all made quick work of the Tigers as they each won in straight sets to give the Rams a 7-0 sweep.
