SB: Rams Fall to Jaguars in Extras

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Texas Wesleyan University (2-5) fell to Texas A&M - San Antonio (4-3) 10-9 in a tightly contested matchup on Saturday in San Antonio.

Texas Wesleyan started strong against Texas A&M - San Antonio, scoring four runs in the first inning. Haylie Delarosa singled and advanced on a throwing error, while Rachet Houston followed with a bunt single. Delarosa then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Payton Blanco. Arieanna Hernandez contributed with an RBI double, and KK Moore added an RBI groundout. Ally Hinojosa capped the inning with an RBI single, giving the Rams a 4-0 lead after the first.

In the second inning, the Rams extended their lead with another four-run inning. Kadynce Crenshaw doubled to start the inning, and Delarosa added a double of her own. Houston's RBI single scored Crenshaw, followed by a Blanco RBI single that, aided by a throwing error, allowed two runs to score. Moore was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing another run across. Texas Wesleyan led 8-0 after the second inning.

Texas A&M - San Antonio responded in the third inning, scoring five runs to narrow the gap. A bases-loaded walk and a two-run double by Alyssa Arnall, followed by a scoring error, contributed to the opponent's rally. Texas Wesleyan led 8-5 after the third inning.

In the fifth inning, Texas Wesleyan added another run, aided by a fielding error that allowed Delarosa to score, making it 9-7. However, the Jaguars continued to fight back, scoring two runs in the sixth inning and tying the game in the eighth. The game ended in the eighth inning with Texas A&M - San Antonio scoring the winning run on a walk-off fielder's choice, concluding the game with a final score of 10-9

Hope Grant, the Rams' pitcher, delivered 2 2/3 innings in the game against the Jaguars, allowing five earned runs on two hits. Grant issued six walks and struck out one batter over the course of 63 pitches, 24 of which were strikes. Despite recording five groundouts, the pitcher faced challenges in the third inning, conceding all five runs, including two runs with two outs.

Delarosa recorded three runs and two hits, including a double, while reaching base on two walks. Hernandez contributed with two hits and an RBI, also securing a double in her at-bat. Houston collected three hits and one RBI, adding two stolen bases and scoring twice. Blanco drove in two runs with a hit and a sacrifice, also drawing a walk.

The Rams come home next weekend for the first time this season as they start a four game series with Tabor College. The first doubleheader will take place on Friday, February 20 with the first game starting at 1:00pm.
